Getting to street kids before
the street gets to them

Throughout the world, there are so many charities doing wonderful things on behalf of street kids.

So, what's different about Railway Children?

In a word: intervention.

We work with children living on the streets but unlike other organisations, our approach is different. At Railway Children, our focus is to prevent abuse. We are proactive in saving children before they fall into the hands of pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers and criminal gangs.

We do this through a network of volunteers and paid childcare specialists who patrol areas where young people who have recently left home are likely to congregate; railway stations, town centres and bus depots.

Our outreach workers know the local street children and when a new child appears on the scene our team are best placed to approach them before they are approached by a dangerous individual. In many instances, a child can be targeted by criminals within minutes of leaving a train.

It's all about early intervention.

For the children in our care, we provide shelter, food, clothing, education and healthcare. That's part of the process but it's not the thing that makes us unique. We intervene with a child at the earliest opportunity before an abuser does.

Our aim is always to stop a runaway child becoming a street child and your donation will help us to achieve this.
